Quoting [Paul Aiken], “We’ve never taken a position other than that...
– A man known as freediverdude, providing the first satisfactory explanation I’ve heard of how the Author’s Guild/Amazon Kindle debate isn’t a legal gray area. Not an easy feat for an Engadget commenter.

Obama plans to increase spectrum license fees to... →
This mostly affects mobile carriers (EDIT: and I’m hearing that if they go ahead with the fee increase, carriers will probably make customers pay for it in the “fees” section of their bills.)
The administration estimates that spectrum license fees would raise $4.8 billion over the next 10 years…a drop in the bucket compared with what is required to halve the deficit.

This is an amazing interview. I love how Bezos keeps repeating his PR bullet points verbatim and Jon just doesn’t put up with any of it.

Jon Stewart: How much is [the Amazon Kindle]?
Jeff Bezos: $359
Jon Stewart: Whoa. Now that's a lot. Is that going to come down? That's got to come down. Why is it so much?

Selectively censored Twitter widget generates... →
Glam Media offered marketers the chance to sponsor a filtered or edited version of the Twitter message stream during the awards ceremony. Editors chose which tweets showed up in the stream and purged those that were inappropriate or off-topic, making it safer for brand advertisers. Aveeno sponsored last night’s Twitter widget; Glam says it plans to expand the service, dubbed gWire, to include...

MySpace CEO Chris DeWolfe Discusses Mobile... →
Interesting to watch the progression of MySpace as a business and how its mobile efforts are so prevalent in its long-term business plan. Even though Facebook has 10 million more users, MySpace is actually profitable whereas FB is hilariously still trying to think of a revenue model that will suddenly make them millions of dollars (similar to Google and its AdSense program).
In any case,...

How come I didn’t hear about this until law enforcement started using pepper spray?
This is the type of behavior that would occur (and possibly even be endorsed) all the time at COA if its student body were only slightly less complacent.

Dave Rogers and Dean Holland:
When we started on Season 2 and we knew that we had multiple Avids, everyone said that the OSX Unity was buggy. We have just stayed with Meridian… We keep all of our shows online throughout a season as we might use different scenes or shots for cutaways.

Negative(!) Early Review of Watchmen →
He hilariously describes the 20-minute-excerpt which has been screened for and raved about by most press outlets as “among the few [scenes] that work on any level”.
I read Watchmen a long time after I had my mind blown by the movies and books that ripped it off, so I don’t really worship the original comic like other fans do. But I think it will make most fans happy: it sounds...

50% of Charges Against The Pirate Bay Dropped →
So I was going to leave this topic to significantly more competent tumblers, but a sitewide search reveals only a handful of posts on the subject. So, a quick summary of the past few days intended for the previously uninformed:
The Pirate Bay is the #1 BitTorrent tracker on the Web, based in Sweden. Due to the nature of the BitTorrent protocol, TPB doesn’t actually host any files its users...

And speaking of Kanye West, here’s his newest music video. It manages to adopt that CLASSIC TECHNIQUE known as “unintentional plagiarism” in addition to continuing his incredibly obnoxious disregard of aspect ratios.
Still a good song, though.

About A Boy, Part II [Let’s Do HIm Justice] - feat. Gregory Smith
Just realized I’ve never posted these up here. Both videos were produced for Documentary Video Studio at College of the Atlantic in WI-2007. For reference: the professor’s name was Nancy Andrews and I am 100% aware at this point of how much of an idiot I sound like behind the camera. But I think they’re...

DELOCATED
I give this show my absolute highest possible recommendation. Jon Glaser has created something really great with this. (Jon was a writer on Conan and Human Giant).
PLEASE watch it on Thursday at 10:30 on Adult Swim. I saw an advance copy of the whole series and it is just genius. The show will possibly be your favorite comedy on TV once you see how awesome it is.
